Road
There are two main routes into the Highlands, from Glasgow alongside Loch Lomond along the A82. This route can get very busy especially in the summer around Loch Lomond. Alternatively there is the A9 from Perth to Inverness which passes through upper Speyside along the way. Although if coming directly to Invergarry the A889 then A86 which turns off left at Dalwhinnie and goes to Spean Bridge is recommended as it is usually far less busy and is also a scenic drive.

Rail
There are two rail routes into the Highlands, both counted among the most scenic rail journeys in the UK. The West Highland line to Fort William starts at Glasgow. The other route is the Highland line which runs from Edinburgh to Inverness.
